On December 18th, 1970, Earl Simmons was born in Baltimore, Maryland. The family moved to Yonkers, New York, where he grew up. Earl’s dad left him at a young age, and his mother was abusive. He was mean and aggressive throughout his youth, which led to group homes and Earl’s survival on the streets.

Ruffhouse, a Columbia subsidiary, signed him to a contract in 1992, and his debut single “Born Loser” was released. He seemed like a promising beginning for DMX, but the company under-promoted his single and soon terminated his contract with them.
He (DMX) released his second single, Make a Move, in 1994. But shortly afterward, he was arrested for selling drugs.
DMX signed on with Def Jam three years later, in 1997, and made many guest appearances with LL Cool J and Mase. The following year, a third single, Get at me Dog, was released. This song became a gold-selling smash hit on the rap and dance charts, and DMX became a successful star.
In May 1998, his debut album was out, and it debuted on the pop charts at number one. DMX has sold over 74 million songs since then, with 17.1 million in the U.S. alone. Seven studio albums were released, along with five compilation albums. He also appeared in several movies, including Never Die Alone.
In addition to rapping and acting, DMX even dabbles in album production. In 2000, he joined and released Bloodline Records with Def Jam.
