How to enable Read Receipts on Android, iOS and other messengers
If you send a casual message to someone, it’s not a problem at all when you get ignored, but if the matter or your motive of sending the text message is urgent, then you might find not getting a response a problem. One thing that should be noted is that not all these recipients ignore messages; some are just busy going about their work. That aside, we will show you how to enable read receipt, so you get to know whether you are being ignored or not.
Checking message status in an iOS device
We will start with the method to turn on the read receipts for your iPhone device. This method only works when the recipient’s message read receipt is enabled, and both of the sender and receiver are using iPhone iMessage. If all these conditions are met, then follow these steps to check message status:
Step 1: On your device, locate the Settings and navigate to the page.
Step 2: From the settings list available, go to Messages
Step 3: Once you find the ‘Send Read Receipts,’ simply toggle the switch to turn it on.
Note: This method will not work if the recipient in question uses any other device asides the iOS.
Checking message status on Android device
Similar to the iOS device, Android device users can also check their read receipts, and these settings can only work when both parties the sender and recipient use the same device, i.e., Android in this case. By default, Android devices have read receipts automatically enabled, but this process might vary slightly based on the device manufacturer. But generally, these steps will ensure you enable the read receipt.
Step 1: On your android device, launch a text message app.
Step 2: Navigate to Settings, then Text Messages.
Step 3: Turn off Read Receipts since it is automatically enabled. You can also choose to leave it as it is.
Social media apps
Now we will discuss how you can set read receipts for social media apps. When it comes to these apps, We have two well-recognized platforms where people chat often– Facebook and Whatsapp. We will outline the steps to turn on read receipt on WhatsApp since Facebook does not permit to check read receipt on their platform.
Step 1: Locate and launch the WhatsApp application
Step 2: Navigate to Settings
Step 3: Go to Account and then Privacy
Step 4: Now, uncheck the Read Receipts.
