Facebook is an essential forum for advertisers who want to target targeted audiences for their products. The Facebook business, which was once just a peer-to-peer marketplace, has become a crucial part of it. Facebook Marketplace helps marketers focus on the debates currently taking place on Facebook as the shopping world gets increasingly omnichannel, with more and more opportunities to offer in different locations.

About 800 million users used Marketplace per month to browse, buy, or sell items as of October 2018, giving marketers a chance to fuel exploration and purchases of critical products in a position where their buyers are already shopping.

What is Facebook Marketplace?

A marketplace is a convenient location where customers can look for, buy, and sell products. People will find what they’re looking for by filtering results by location, type, and price. By marketing on Marketplace, you would be able to reach customers where they are now.

Categories

Individuals and brands can list items in the following categories:

  • Classifieds.
  • Clothing & Accessories.
  • Deals.
  • Electronics.
  • Entertainment.
  • Family.
  • Hobbies.
  • Home & Garden.
  • Housing.
  • Vehicles.

Shoppers may display specific categories, all categories, or search for a particular product.

Things To Consider When Selling on Facebook Marketplace

Orders must be shipped within three days and received within seven days.

For brands that produce handmade products, it is essential to adjust the amount available to account for supply and demand issues.

Not all eCommerce platforms sync with Facebook Marketplace.

The following is a list of the eCommerce sites for which Facebook Marketplace has partnered.

  • BigCommerce.
  • ChannelAdvisor.
  • ShipStation.
  • Shopify.
  • Zentail.
  • Quipt.
  • CommerceHub.

There will be lots of communication/messages from buyers.

“Facebook Marketplace is indeed a new concept for certain people. Be patient when it comes to teaching the clients. Answering questions respectfully and promptly,” said Danette Martin, owner of Sweetums Signatures, a custom decal company.

As in every sales platform, you can receive inquiries from people interested in buying your product or people who have already ordered and are arranging for delivery. You’ll want to quickly perfect the sound and contact models for pre-and post-purchase inquiries from customers. Customer support interactions are an often-overlooked opportunity to highlight the brand’s voice and genuinely satisfy consumers.

Facebook Marketplace Rules for Selling

View the Facebook Marketplace Commerce Policies to learn more about Marketplace, including what types of Items are allowed and some that are forbidden. The Commerce Policies apply to marketplaces, buy and sell events, page shops, and Instagram Shopping.

Certain items cannot be sold.

Facebook keeps a list of products that aren’t permitted to be sold on Marketplace. There are some examples:

  • Adult products or services.
  • Alcohol.
  • Animals.
  • Digital media and electronic devices.
  • Event tickets.
  • Gift Cards.
  • Healthcare items (thermometers, first-aid kits, etc.).
  • Illegal, prescription, or recreational drugs.
  • Tobacco products or tobacco paraphernalia.
  • Unsafe supplements.
  • Weapons, ammunition, or explosives.

You must sell a physical item.

Anything that isn’t a physical object that can be purchased cannot be sold. As an example:

  • “in search of” posts.
  • Lost and found posts.
  • Jokes.
  • News.

Services such as housekeeping and event tickets are only available on the Marketplace in collaboration with one of Facebook’s partners.

The description of the item must match the image.

The images you upload for the item must fit the title and description you give it.

Before-and-after pictures are prohibited.

Facebook items cannot have a picture before or after (example: a photo showing weight loss). Facebook has gone to great lengths to ensure the Marketplace is a secure online marketplace for people to buy and sell.

If your item is delisted and you believe you have not violated the Commerce Policies, you can appeal the decision, and Facebook will reconsider. If you come across an item for sale that you believe violates Facebook’s Community Standards or the Commerce Policies, you have the option to report both the item and the seller.

Summary

Every month, over 800 million users worldwide used Marketplace to search, buy, or sell items as of October 2018. Retailers are looking for innovative ways to diversify their delivery sources as rivalry expands and omnichannel tactics become more common, like tapping into existing networks and online outlets. Facebook Marketplace allows users to find, buy, and sell goods. You may reach consumers by trading on the Marketplace.
