List of Browsers for Desktop Computers and Mobile Device

List of Browsers for Desktop Computers – Now and then, everyone comes across a webpage that they want to save for later research or share with others. You could copy and paste the link, but having the page as an image that you can view offline, mark up, and Print is sometimes more convenient. The most versatile solution is to create a PDF file that can be read or sent anywhere.

Using our step-by-step instructions, let’s take a look at the most popular browsers and see how they save webpages as PDFs. We can also help you convert them to JPG,.docx, or Excel if you need more options.

Please keep in mind that these instructions are current as of the time of publication for the most recent versions of the respective browsers. Older versions may use slightly different methods, but they should all be roughly equivalent.

Browsers for Desktop Computers

The fastest and most efficient way to save a webpage to PDF is to use the Print function in most browsers. We understand that the logical choice is Save Page As…, but that option is for saving pages in a web format, not as a container file like a PDF. The Print option is the tool you require.

Chrome

Step 1: In the top-right corner, click the Three-Dot icon and select Print… from the drop-down menu. Alternatively, press Ctrl + P (or Command+P if you’re on a Mac).

Step 2: In the resulting pop-up window, select Save As PDF from the drop-down menu by clicking the Down Arrow to the right of Destination. As shown above, a preview will be generated in the left pane.

Step 3: If necessary, click More Settings to see options for changing the paper size, scaling, and so on.

Step 4: Once you’ve made all of the necessary changes, click the Save button and choose a location on your computer. To finish, click a second Save button.

Microsoft Edge

This method applies to newer Chromium-based browsers. While an older version of Edge is still available, it will no longer be supported after March 9, 2021. The image below is of Chromium Edge.

Step 1: In the top-right corner, click the Three-Dot icon and select Print from the drop-down menu. Ctrl + P is another option.

Step 2: In the following pop-up window, click the Down Arrow next to the Printer and choose the Save As PDF option from the drop-down menu, as shown above.

Step 3: Under Layout and Pages, select the orientation and page range you want to save the webpage. You can also view and change other options, such as paper size and scaling, by clicking More Settings.

Step 4: Once you’ve made all of the necessary changes, click the Save button and choose a location on your computer. To finish, click a second Save button.

The Safari

There are two ways to save a webpage as a PDF file in Safari:

Step 1: While Safari is open, click File on the menu bar and select the Export As PDF… option from the drop-down menu.

Step 2: In the next pop-up window, enter a file name, choose a location, and click the Save button. That’s all!

If you want a little more control over the information in the PDF, Safari has a more extended method:

Step 1: With Safari open, click File on the menu bar and select the Print… option from the drop-down menu. Alternatively, you can open the printer window by pressing Command + P.

Step 2: On the following pop-up, click the Down Arrow in the bottom-left corner as shown above. Choose Save As PDF from the resulting drop-down menu.

Step 3: Another pop-up window appears. You can enter a file name, title, subject, author, and keyboards here, as well as configure security settings. When you’re finished, choose a destination and click the Save button.

Mozilla Firefox

Firefox is the only one of the four popular desktop browsers that lack a built-in PDF printer. Instead, it makes use of Windows 10’s Microsoft Print to PDF function.

Step 1: In the top-right corner, click the Three Horizontal Lines icon and select Print… from the drop-down menu.

Step 2: In the following window, in the top-left corner, click the Print button. As an alternative, you can open the print menu by pressing Ctrl + P.

Step 3: From the printer options, select Microsoft Print to PDF and, when finished, click the Print button.

Step 4: Enter a name and save location, then press the Save button.

The procedure is similar in Firefox for Mac, but it does not include the Microsoft Print to PDF option. To print a PDF from Firefox on a Mac, follow these steps:

Step 1: With Firefox open, click the three horizontal lines icon, then scroll down to Print. Alternately, press Command+P.

Step 2: Go to the bottom left corner of the Print dialog and select PDF from the drop-down menu.

Step 3: Choose Print, and then, in the Save dialog, give your PDF a name and a location to save it.

Extensions, on the other hand, can enable Firefox to save to PDF. PDF Mage is a well-liked and popular option.

Web Extensions and tools

Do you wish you had more options for creating specific types of PDFs? Is it necessary to customize PDFs before they are made? There are numerous online extensions and web-based tools that specialize in converting HTML to PDFs, with multiple options for how the PDF should look and where it should go. These options are especially beneficial for developers and businesses that need to convert various pages simultaneously.

Paperplane: Paperplane is a versatile conversion tool for developers. For quick users, enter a link and select the page size and orientation to generate a PDF. Businesses may wish to invest in a package that includes more options for comprehensive PDF management (free trials available). Developers can also create an API key using a Paperplane code to have the tool wherever it is required!

PDFShift: PDFShift is a lightning-fast online tool. All you need for long-term use is a free account, but the real value is in the complete set of devices that allow for mass HTML conversions at high speeds of severe projects.

NovaPDF: For its PDF creator and manager, NovaPDF offers business-friendly licenses. Print to NovaPDF to generate a PDF and customize the “printing” job with NovaPDF’s overlays, watermarks, digital signatures, and other options. It’s an excellent tool for more detailed work.

Adobe Acrobat: If you have a subscription to Adobe services (or are willing to start a free trial), you have another option. Adobe gives you the opportunity of installing a PDF toolbar in your browser. This creates a simple Convert to PDF button that allows for on-the-fly conversions. The toolbar is compatible with Internet Explorer, Chrome, and Firefox, and it may be more convenient if you frequently use Adobe tools.

Browsers for Mobile Devices

iOS/iPadOS Safari

There are two ways to create a PDF on the iPhone and iPad using Safari. The screenshot tool is used in the first method:

Step 1: Launch Safari and take a screenshot of a webpage. Your device determines this method.

Step 2: A thumbnail appears in the bottom-left corner of the screen. It should be tapped.

Step 3: On the next screen, select the Full Page tab and make any necessary markups. When you’re finished, tap Done.

Step 4: On the resulting popover, select Save PDF to Files. To finish, choose a destination on your device and tap Save.

The Share tool is used in the second method:

Step 1: In Safari, open the webpage and tap the Share button.

Step 2: On the Share Sheet’s drop-down (iPad) or pop-up (iPhone) menu, select Options listed under the webpage title, as shown above.

Step 3: Choose PDF from the list below, then tap Back (iPad) or Done (iPhone).

Step 4: Tap Save to Files on the Share Sheet.

Step 5: Choose a destination and then press the Save button.

Chrome for iOS and Android

Step 1: In the Chrome app, open the desired webpage, tap the three-dot icon in the top-right corner, and select Share from the drop-down menu.

Step 2: At the bottom of the screen, a gray pop-up menu appears—select Print from the drop-down menu.

Step 3: In the top-right corner of the screen, tap the down arrow and select the Save As PDF option from the drop-down menu.

Step 4: Click the down arrow next to Paper Size and select your document options (size, color, and pages) if necessary.

Step 5: When you’re ready, tap on the blue circle PDF icon on the right side of the screen.

Step 6: Name your File by scrolling to the bottom of the next screen and clicking Save. You can also save your location by simply pressing the three horizontal lines (located on the top left of your screen). You can choose from several options, including the Downloads folder, another location on your device’s storage, or your Google Drive. If you’re using an iOS device, you can also save PDFs directly from Chrome; however, the instructions are slightly different.

Step 1: Tap the Share icon (located in the upper right corner of your screen) and scroll down until you see the Print option. Choose it.

Step 2: From the Print menu, make a pinching motion with both of your fingers to zoom in and get a closer look. When you do this, the page will automatically transform into a full-screen PDF for you to examine.

Step 3: On the top right of the screen, click the Share icon once more, then select Save to Files. You can then give your File a name, and you’re done – you now have a PDF of your webpage. Keep in mind that you can do the same thing with Firefox for iOS.

Download the Convert Web to PDF app, which allows you to convert to PDF quickly and includes an impressive set of editing tools. This app will enable you to convert only the text or the background. If you prefer, you can also define a table of contents or quality levels.
