Instagram Story | How To Share Your Friend’s Instagram Story: Instagram has avoided quick re-sharing of content for a long time. Although it has been testing a “regram” feature for a long time, it still lags behind apps such as Twitter and Facebook when it comes to re-sharing content. But while Instagram is a bastion of original content, you can re-share stories from those you follow with a feature in place. Your friends can also re-share your stories.
The sharing features for Instagram Stories
- Next, a friend’s story needs to be public, which might not be a considerable issue because it’s the default setting for Instagram.
- Second, in your friend’s story itself, you need to be tagged.
- Even if you and your friend follow each other, once certain conditions are met, you will not be able to re-share each other’s stories.
- It’s still a fantastic feature, regardless of those two conditions, as long as you’re OK with playing ball.
- Only make sure to update Instagram for Android or iPhone so that before you give it a shot, you’re on the latest edition.
- The function first appeared in version 48 on June 7, 2018, so you’re probably still well ahead of that version.
Tagging Somebody in an Instagram Story
You’ll need to tag them first if you want your mates to be able to share your stories with their own stories. Similarly, they’ll need to tag you if you’re going to post their stories in your accounts. In each story, up to ten different friends can be listed.
- Take a photo or video as you usually would in the Stories camera
- Tap on the screen to tag someone in a story,
- Then @mention them by typing @ followed by the username.
- You can also tap the “Aa” icon to open the text editor instead of clicking anywhere on the screen.
- In addition to using the text option, you can tap the sticker icon and select the “@MENTION” sticker to make the tag more stylish.
The text tool and sticker strategies, only with aesthetic variations, have the same effect.
- You can select a font, resize it
- Add a backdrop (on some), explain the text (on some)
- And change the font color, including the rainbow text, for those who are aware of it
- Using a simple @mention with text.
- Three different visual styles are possible to choose from using the @mention sticker.
- Instagram can display good friend accounts at the bottom of the screen with both choices when you enter your username.
- You can tap an account here to auto-fill the tag easily.

Sharing the Story of Someone Else in Your Story
If you want to share a story with others, you have to be tagged first. Instagram will immediately warn you with a notification once someone tags you in their story.
- Please tap the notification.
- Alternatively, go to your Instagram Direct Inbox by clicking the paper airplane icon at the top right of the app’s home page.
- Then tap the person who tagged you with the direct message.
- If you were just tagged, it should be the first one, and it should contain a “Add This to Your Story.” choice inside the message.
- Tap ‘Add This to Your Story,’ and the story of your friend appears with a thick border around it.’
- If it were your post, you would then resize the post, add text, stickers, sketches, and more, practically everything you can do. You can’t edit the story’s original content, however.
- Please send it to your own story when editing is finished, where it’ll sit for 24 hours. When your followers look at your story, they can see the original poster’s username at the top of the story.
- They can also long-press on the story to view a tappable tag to that friend’s page.
Although stories only last for 24 hours until they vanish, they can be shared as profile highlights by you and other users. Doing so ensures that it will stay on the profile until it is manually taken off. So if you highlight a post in which you shared the story of someone else, that someone will still be in it before you get rid of it. It’s certainly a step in the right direction, but this is not as cool as being able to re-share all (or even just all stories). One day, maybe, Instagram will open the gates and allow all stories to be openly shared. Happy tagging until then!
