How to Use WhatsApp From a Computer
There’s a free web client that makes it easy to access WhatsApp on a computer from a web browser. There’s also a standalone WhatsApp web client for Windows and Linux.
If you don’t have the smartphone app, download it on your phone before setting up WhatsApp on your machine. Once you’ve done that, visit WhatsApp Web, or download the desktop software from the WhatsApp download page. In the desktop edition, pick the download connection that correlates with your device’s operating system (Windows or Mac) (Windows or Mac).
When opened, the procedure for setting up the WhatsApp desktop software and web client interface is the same:
- Open WhatsApp on your computer.
- Tap the Chats tab, then tap the three vertical dots to open a drop-down menu.
- Tap WhatsApp Web.
- Keep your phone up to the computer screen to check the QR Code shown on the desktop or web client.
- The WhatsApp client opens automatically and reveals the messages you have on your phone. Close WhatsApp on your phone and access it from your machine.
WhatsApp Site Vs. WhatsApp Desktop
- WhatsApp Desktop is a versatile application made for users accustomed to using WhatsApp. It supports keyboard shortcuts when chatting, and alerts can be sent directly to your desktop.
- WhatsApp Web is better if you’re new to the software. All you have to do is log in to the WhatsApp website from any browser. Your messages immediately appear no matter which device you use, where it is, and whether it’s public or private. Both versions of WhatsApp let you submit pictures and other types of files just like the web version.
WhatsApp Desktop and Mobile Features
- The web and desktop versions of WhatsApp allow you to search your hard drive for images, videos, and documents that you can submit via the chat interface. If your machine has a camera, you can access it directly in the interface to take a picture that you can send in chat. Pick the paperclip in the upper-right corner of the chat window to show a drop-down menu.
- Another feature exclusive to WhatsApp Desktop is voice messages. Start a recording by selecting the microphone in the lower-right corner of the interface.

How to Add Someone to WhatsApp
Adding someone on Whatsapp lets you find and connect with your mates. All you have to do is add a number and a name. You may even share your WhatsApp contacts with others.
- Go to the Chats tab in the app.
- Tap the Compose icon in the bottom-right of the screen to open a new chat tab.
- Tap New Contact to add an individual.
- Tap the First name field and enter the name of the person you’re adding.
- Tap the Last name area and add their last name.
- Enter the person’s phone number in the Phone area. If their number is registered in a different part of the world (i.e., you are located in the U.S., but your friend is in the UK) you will need to add a country code.
- Tap Save in the top-right corner of the page to save the contact.
- You can also see the person’s name and contact information.
- Tap Done to return to the Chats tab.
