Download the App for Google Hangout

Whether it’s the Apple App Store for iOS users or Google Play for Android users, the Hangout app is available from the app store of your device of choice. Open it and log in with your Gmail account credentials after you download the app. The Hangouts app syncs with your Gmail account, so all of your email contacts are already connected to you via Hangouts, whether you’re logging in on a mobile device or on a desktop.

You can tap the phone icon to start an audio call, or the video icon to start a video call, beyond text messaging, as you can in your Gmail chatbox on a desktop computer. You just do it directly from the app on your phone instead of signing in to your Gmail inbox to chat them up.

Perks of using Mobile Device Hangout

A convenient aspect of mobile devices using the Hangouts app is that it keeps your team communication out of the inbox of your email and vice versa. Keeping your email inbox open all day is tempting, particularly if you expect significant messages, but it can also be a vehicle for procrastination. You can still chat with Gmail without wasting away while clicking refresh or deleting spam mail in place of productivity by separating important team communications from the Gmail inbox.

Another useful feature of the Google Hangout app is that, if you use Hangouts Meet, it provides free voice and video calling as well as video conferencing. When using Hangouts to video chat with co-workers, it is advisable to be on a Wi-Fi connection because your data usage can run up in no time.

Other Types of Chat with Google

Google provides an intelligent team communication service called Google Hangout Chat, unique to big, remote teams, which is intended to be a competitor to Slack’s team communication tool. With Google Hangouts Chat, team members of your company communicate in chat rooms, directly message each other, and exchange G Suite material with team members, such as Docs, Sheets, and Slides, without thinking about jumping out of the app to issue the proper permissions.

Then there is the Google Duo app, a video-specific Google Chat that, close to Hangouts, provides high-quality video calling and works across all mobile and desktop platforms. With Google Duo, you can leave video messages for your co-workers, as well as live chat and get preview notifications on who is calling you in advance. Hangouts Meet is the Google Chat app that offers video meetings for your team members in groups of up to 50 participants in high definition. Through a shared connection, you can dial in and video in so that you can interact while on a mobile device or desktop computer.

How to start a Gmail Chat on the Hangouts app

  • Open the Hangouts app to begin a chat with a co-worker.
  • Hit the + sign on the main screen.
  • If you have not already started a Hangout with a particular person, pick the name of the contact and submit a Hangout invitation.
  • By entering a message at the bottom of the chat screen and pressing Send, you can now start talking.

You may have learned of something called GChat if you use Google products like Gmail. Technically speaking, that is not the name of a Google product; in fact, that is a slang term for Google Talk, the free instant messaging app that allowed you to chat through speech and text with others until recently. Google Talk is called Hangout now, so they presumably say Hangouts when users mention GChat.

Via Gmail Hangout

Hangouts can be reached in one of two ways. The first is via your interface with Gmail. Google Talk was once placed in the Gmail screen sidebar, and although many users still see Google Talk instead of Hangout, you can upgrade to Hangouts by clicking on the Google Talk chat list picture icon. Within Gmail, Hangouts helps you to connect with other users using instant messaging, voice chat, video chat, and community chat.

Via Mobile App Hangout

The second choice for Google Hangout is the mobile and tablet stand-alone app, which includes instant messaging, photo sharing, video calls, and other features. Accessible through different platforms and operating systems, the Hangouts app makes it a versatile and quick way to keep up with your friends and groups.
