Tips for your Android device to reach optimum charging speed

Tips for your Android device to reach optimum charging speed: One of the most persuasive features bringing consumers to the platform is always introducing emerging technology in flagship Android handsets, and wireless charging is no different. Compared to other mobile operating systems, the industry-standard Qi wireless charging experience on premium Android handsets is arguably close.

Five tips for your Android device to reach optimum charging speed

Below are some tips:

1. Understand the standards

The industry-standard Qi certification for wireless charging is used by most Android devices, which ensures interoperability between devices. The easiest way to safely achieve optimum charging output for your Android smartphone is by using a Qi-certified wireless charger. When using non-Qi chargers, compatibility and protection can not be assured, so the most basic check you can do when buying a new charger is to ensure that it’s Qi-certified (and not just ‘Qi-compatible’). The WPC is the association of the industry that oversees the implementation of the Qi standard; “The WPC plays a pivotal role in ensuring the best possible wireless charging experience across a range of brands and platforms. As a WPC member, Moshi can create industry-leading wireless charging solutions based on Qi technology,” said Spencer Pangborn, Moshi’s Marketing Director.

2. Know your power profiles

Two power profiles are within the Qi norm that determines how much power can theoretically be given.

  • In essence, the basic power profile (BPP) is the first iteration of Qi, offering a maximum of 5 W. Via this profile. Most Qi-certified devices should be able to achieve at least 5 W performance.
  • The Extended Power Profile (EPP) will wirelessly provide up to 15 W of charging power, and if you have a flagship Android smartphone, it should certainly be your choice. On our blog, read more about EPP.

3. Check your manufacturer

Although the Qi EPP can provide 15 W of power, it is up to the handset manufacturer to decide how much power to accept for charging. Other factors related to battery health and heat transfer would likely need to be considered. When using Qi-certified chargers with major manufacturers’ handsets at the time of writing, the latest maximum power outputs are:

Bear in mind that these are maximum outputs and may not be available to all the manufacturer’s phones. To confirm what to expect from charging Qi, search your handset’s documentation.

4. Place it right

Once you have bought a new wireless charger, the trick to achieving the best charging output is to correctly position the receiver coil of your phone over the charger’s transmitter coils. To learn precisely where the coils are located, search your phone’s documentation. Buying a wireless charger with a more efficient coil can also aid and produce power over a wider area. Finally, on top of the charger, an excellent non-slip surface can ensure that your phone remains in place when charging.

5. Ignore the homebrew hype

Several handset manufacturers have begun to promote their own proprietary alternatives to Qi (mainly based in China), reporting wildly outlandish wireless charging outputs of up to 80 W. Not only are these technologies not endorsed by any certification based on standards, but our internal testing found that during real-world use, they rarely live up to their claims. “Using a trusted industry standard such as Qi is the best way to guarantee performance, interoperability—and most importantly—safety,” said Mr. Pangborn.
