Fortunately, there are ways to get rid of irritating posts on your Facebook News Feed while keeping your friendship intact outside of Facebook.

First, the user may be unfriendly; Facebook will not tell the person you have done so. Of course, if the individual begins to question why he or she no longer sees your posts and looks for you, your former link can find your profile page and see “send her a friend request” in a box at the top of it, a dead giveaway pointing to what you did.

You may choose Unfollow, the user, as an alternative. You’re still going to be friends, but you’re not going to see any of their messages. Go to the top menu bar and click on the downward arrow all the way to the right to unfollow someone. Select Preferences for News Feeds then. You may opt to unfollow individuals there, prioritize the posts you see first and reconnect with individuals you have unfollowed throughout the past.

You may also opt to have someone deleted from your On This Day Feed so that a person’s posts from years past will not resurface on Facebook. Go to your News Feed on the left side to do this and scroll down to On This Day and click on it. You’ll see a button for Preferences at the top of the On This Day list. To prevent particular individuals and dates from being included, click on it for the alternative.

In addition to not viewing the posts of the user, by adding him or her to your Restricted list, you may limit the access of that person to only your public posts and data. Go to your Profile page and click on the “Friends” tab at the top to add the person to your Restricted list. You can click on the Friends box next to their name to open the options for each friend, one of which is “Add to another list…” There, you can find the Restricted list, among any other lists that you have made.

There are a couple of ways to reduce the number of posts if you do want to see the occasional post from an individual. Find an objectionable post and click on the arrow in the upper right corner if you hate these types of posts. There you will see the “Hide post” option. The number of posts like the one you’ve just hidden will be reduced. If you generally want to minimize the messages, you may tag them as an acquaintance. Go to your profile page and click on the Friends tab at the top of the page. You can click on the Friends box next to their name for each friend to open up choices, one of which is to mark them as an acquaintance.

But what about the people you really care about, the ones you want on Facebook to see everything they do? You can tag individuals as an Acquaintance or Restricted in the same place; you can also tag them as a Close Friend.
