Facebook Dating | How it works and All you need to know: Throughout the globe, Facebook links billions of people. Today, it makes them hook up and find the love of their lives (potentially). After launching last year in 19 countries, including Argentina, Canada, Chile, Mexico, Peru, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam, the social media giant is beginning to carry out its new dating service, Facebook Dating.

Facebook-Dating

At its 2018 F8 developer conference, Facebook unveiled the new dating service and said the service would suggest possible matches based on Facebook activity to users who opt-in and want to create a dating profile. The service is focused on Facebook dating interests, mutual friends, groups, and activities to match possible matches. It’s free to download as well. Facebook is thrusting itself into the $3 billion dating market with healthy competition from OkCupid, Tinder, and Bumble to introduce this feature. On Thursday, shares in Match Group (MTCH), which owns Tinder and OkCupid, dropped by as much as 6 percent.

The stock previously fell more than 15% on the day Facebook revealed the dating feature.
With the unique benefit of tap into its estimated 221 million U.S. users, Facebook joins the fray. A Pew Research study found that Facebook is used by seven in ten U.S. people, suggesting that the potential user base at launch is gigantic. Tinder has just 3.8 million users, by contrast. Just about half of U.S. teens (51 percent) use the main Facebook app, another Pew Research study found. This dating feature is only available to users 18 years and older, so it will probably not help boost the decreasing popularity of Facebook among teenagers. The service is only available on mobile devices for now and needs no additional downloads. It’s integrated directly into Facebook’s main app. You will find it in the same location as the marketplace and groups by scrolling to the top-right menu.

The program runs separately from the main Facebook accounts, according to Facebook, and it is not scrapped for details that can be used to target advertising. In the future, of course, that might change. Users who build a dating profile can select the details they would like to feature on their Facebook profile, including whether they share mutual friends on the platform with their dating prospects. They won’t see anybody on Facebook with whom they’re already friends or anyone they’ve blocked.

Using first names only, profiles are initially auto-populated. Users then have the option of adding location, gender, height, religion, job title, business, schools, and whether or not they have kids and other details that, among other dating apps, are relatively popular. For example, users can choose whatever they want from a list that includes all women, trans women, trans women. “In a profile, up to nine photos can be used as well as an ice-breaker question such as, “What do you describe best with three emoji? “Facebook’s dating algorithm selects and displays potential matches once completed.

Facebook Dating seems almost similar to other dating sites from this point forward. You may choose to match, share the same religion, or fit those physical characteristics with individuals who live nearby. Notably, it is not a choice to look for unique ethnicities.
Rather than swiping left or right, users press a heart button to show interest or an “X” to move. The choice to like unique content on a person’s profile, such as a picture or the answer to one of the ice-breaker questions, is open. This is analogous to how the dating app Hinge functions.

Many of the key features of Facebook Dating have been highly influenced by other applications on the market. You would probably be very familiar with the controls and how pairing works if you use an app like Tinder, Hinge, or Bumble (i.e., when two people like each other, they are paired and can begin chatting). Facebook Dating has very few unique features, with the “Secret Crush” feature being the most noticeable. You can find an area where you can add hidden crushes to your interests if you scroll past the app’s events and groups section, where you can pair with individuals from events and groups you have entered on Facebook.

Users can add up to nine friends from Facebook or Instagram followers they secretly admire in the Hidden Crush section, and they will get a notification. They’ll get a notification once you add them to your Secret Crush list. Users on their list who have each other will also receive a notice and be paired. They will begin messaging once matched.
Until you match them, Facebook says your hidden crush will never realize it was you who added them to the list. Facebook also says the aim is for people to build relationships with people they meet, but they are too scared to approach them.

This is a fascinating idea and one exclusive to Facebook. In the U.S., there is no other service big enough to make this kind of functionality. It remains to be seen if it pans out, but it is essential to see Facebook already using its vast user base to have a slight edge over other Facebook Dating apps.

Finally, Facebook Dating has the last unique aspect that is worth noting regarding security and support. The service has a new feature called “Share Your Plans” that makes it easier for individuals to share their locations if they wish to meet someone for a date.
You can opt to share your plans with family and friends after you’re done messaging one of your matches to let them know where your date is meeting. This role effectively shares your position with friends or family that you choose during a selected time. When you plan to meet with a stranger, it is easier for loved ones to keep tabs on you.

Today, Facebook Dating is open to all U.S. users who are 18 or older and download the new Facebook version.
