Messages you unsend on Instagram are never deleted

Instagram, like WhatsApp, has a feature that allows users to remove messages they’ve received. Though WhatsApp promises to delete messages for “everyone,” Instagram does not actually remove messages that you “unsend” from its database. Users are receiving prompts from the photo-sharing app informing them of changes to the functionality of the unsend message.

Instagram has a “unsend” message feature, similar to WhatsApp’s “delete for everyone” feature. Both features serve the same purpose: they allow users to remove messages that they have received. When you mistakenly send a message and don’t want the recipient to read it, you can delete or unsend it. However, Instagram has recently informed users that unsent messages are not actually deleted.

Unsent messages are deleted from the chat, but they can still be included if the conversation is recorded, according to a pop-up message received by several Instagram users. This means that if you press the Instagram unsend button, the post will be deleted from the conversation but will stay in Instagram’s database. If the conversation is recorded, the message you delete during the conversation will be used.

Instagram mentioned in another notice that unsent messages will still be included in a report if they violate community standards.

In a related development, Instagram has launched a new feature that allows users to recover deleted posts. Instagram is introducing a new section for “recently removed” photos, which will enable users to look back at the posts they’ve deleted. “Today, we’re launching Recently Deleted, a new feature that will help you manage your content. We know you’ve been asking for it, and now you can check and restore deleted content in the Instagram app for the first time. In a blog post, Instagram said, “We added encryption to help prevent hackers from hacking your account and removing posts you’ve shared.”

When you uninstall your account, the photos, videos, reels, IGTV, and stories will be removed from your account, but they will be transferred to the newly created Recently Deleted folder, according to Instagram’s site.
“You can delete photos, images, reels, IGTV videos, and stories from your account at any time, and they will be transferred to the Recently Deleted folder. Stories that have been deleted but are not in your archive can remain in the folder for up to 24 hours. “After 30 days, everything else will be automatically deleted,” the blog said.

Instagram Tests Letting Users Choose Whether To Show Or Hide Like Counts

Instagram-like counts have been covered on several pages since April 2019 as part of a global test that the business is still conducting. “We want your fans to concentrate on what you write, not how many likes your posts get,” Instagram told these account holders at the time. Only the person who posted a post can see the total number of likes it receives during this test.”

The fact that the counts were secret did not go down well with anyone. Some users saw the advantage, claiming that not seeing like counts alleviated some of the strain they had previously felt on the site. Others, on the other hand, felt that it took away their ability to monitor what was trending and common, which helped them determine what to share on their own pages.

“In 2019, we started hiding like counts for a small group of people to see if it alleviates any of the strain while posting to Instagram,” a Facebook spokesperson said. Some people appreciated this, but others wanted to see like counts so they could keep track of what was popular. As a result, we’re experimenting with a new choice that lets you choose the best experience for you—whether that’s opting out of seeing like counts on other people’s posts, turning them off for your own posts, or sticking with the original experience. We’re starting with Instagram, but we’re also looking at creating a similar experience for Facebook.
