In iOS 11 and earlier, how to Lock Third-Party Apps

The use of Restrictions is a basic app lock solution that works for most iPhones—but only for first-party Apple products. Scroll down to Restrictions > Enable Restrictions, then go to Settings > General > Restrictions > Enable Restrictions. Enter a new passcode when asked (twice to confirm).

You’ll be given a number of choices after enabling restrictions and entering a new passcode. You can disable a number of first-party apps in the Enable area, including Safari, Siri, and FaceTime. This excludes any software you’ve downloaded. You may prevent any disallowed apps from appearing on your Home screen by swiping the green toggle icon to the off place

How to Use Directed Access to Lock Apps on iPhone

Guided Access is a powerful app lock feature that stops you from leaving the app you’re using right now. Even, it might be useful if your child wants to use a specific app on your phone but you’re afraid they’ll go somewhere else.

iOS 11 or later is needed for Guided Access. To use it, follow these steps:

  • Go to General > Accessibility > Directed Access in Settings.
  • This option can be found in Settings > Accessibility in iOS 13.
  • Toggle the Guided Access toggle switch to On (green).
  • Set the Directed Access Passcode in Passcode Settings.
  • Enter a new passcode, then validate it by entering it again.

Once you’ve enabled Guided Access and set your passcode, you can use it by opening any app and pressing the side button three times or the Home button three times, depending on your phone.

The Directed Access start screen appears, allowing you to draw a circle around the areas of the screen you want to disable (set it to either cover the entire screen or none of it). Alternatively, select Options in the lower-right corner of the screen to disable everything from the volume buttons to the touch screen, as well as set a Directed Access session time limit (up to 24 hours).

Using Touch ID instead of a passcode to end a Directed Access session if you have an iPhone with Touch ID.
