6 ways to fix WhatsApp not working issues on iPhone

Poor network connection (Mobile data or Wi-Fi), outdated apps, older versions of iOS, and software crashes are some of the most typical causes of WhatsApp not connecting, not showing notifications, crashing randomly, or other problems on your iPhone. Another reason you may not be able to use WhatsApp on your iPhone is due to server maintenance.

  1. Closeout and reopen Whatapp

If WhatsApp isn’t working on your iPhone after an iOS upgrade, try closing and reopening the app. Minor software faults may create such issues, which can simply be resolved by closing and reopening the program. Additionally, if you leave an app paused or running in the background while installing an update, the app may crash or become corrupted after the update is installed.

Go to the Home Screen, Swipe Up, and pause in the middle to close WhatsApp on iPhone X or later devices. To close WhatsApp, slide up on the symbol.

On an iPhone 8 or previous model, press the Home button twice to display the recently opened apps and close WhatsApp. To close the WhatsApp app preview, swipe upon it.

After a few seconds, open WhatsApp to see if it’s working.

2. Reboot the iPhone

Here’s an old-school but practical solution to a variety of IT issues. It’s a quick and simple fix for when the WhatsApp app stops working and your iPhone screen freezes, or when the WhatsApp app keeps crashing. Any small software problems that are interfering with your iPhone or the apps can be removed with a restart.

It will also wipe your iPhone’s internal memory (RAM), giving you a fresh start.

Open WhatsApp once your iPhone has booted up to see if your problem has been resolved.

3. Make a WhatsApp update

Another reason WhatsApp isn’t loading or working properly on your iPhone could be because you’re using an old version of the app. If rebooting your iOS device does not resolve your WhatsApp issues, check for any pending updates in the App Store. Updates with new features and patches for in-app faults that are creating performance issues on your phone are routinely released by developers.

Here’s how to upgrade WhatsApp on an iPhone 8 or later:

  • 1. Go to the App Store and download the app.
  • 2. At the bottom of your screen, tap the Today tab.
  • 3. In the top-right corner of your screen, tap the user profile.
  • 4. Your account information will be displayed.
  • 5. Go to the area of available updates and scroll down.
  • 6. Look over the list of apps that are available. If you come across WhatsApp, tap the UPDATE button next to it.

Try the following actions listed below after you’ve updated WhatsApp or if the app is already up to date and you’re still having problems.

You can also look at the most recent reviews to see if other people are having similar problems.

4. Check your iPhone’s Content Restrictions

Another regular occurrence reported by iOS users is when WhatsApp alerts on the iPhone stop working. If this is the case for you, make sure you check your iPhone’s Content Restrictions. You may have given your iPhone to your child to play games or to someone else to make a call, and you’ve set certain limits so they don’t spy through other apps on your phone.

If you do so, the apps and services available on your iPhone may be limited or altogether hidden. It’s also a wonderful method to hide apps on your iPhone or iPad, but remember to turn off restrictions when you’re not using them.

On iOS 12 and later, here’s how to turn off Content Restrictions:

  • 1. Go to Screen Time > Settings.
  • 2. Select Content and Privacy Restrictions > Content Restrictions from the drop-down menu.
  • 3. Select Apps.
  • 4. Change the limitations to suit your needs.

When you launch WhatsApp after disabling all restrictions, you’ll get a notice asking you to Allow or Disallow Notifications for that app on your iPhone. Allow notifications if you don’t want WhatsApp notifications to appear on your iPhone. All of the other apps follow the same rule.

  • Go to General > Settings.
  • Select Software Update from the drop-down menu.
  • Install any updates that are available.

After you’ve removed the restrictions, restart your iPhone and see if WhatsApp is working properly.

5. Update your iOS device

It’s time to update iOS if you’ve tried updating WhatsApp on your iPhone and still can’t send or receive messages or notifications. On iOS, the older version may create issues with WhatsApp loading and other performance-related issues. As a result, making sure your iPhone is running the most recent stable version of iOS is a good idea.

6. Check the status of WhatsApp’s server

You should check if the WhatsApp server is down if you’re not alone and many of your friends or family members are experiencing the same problems. Many programs, such as Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and others, require server maintenance from time to time or may be unavailable due to a bug. The services are unavailable while they are being repaired or maintained. As a result, if WhatsApp is unavailable, there is nothing you can do but wait for the WhatsApp staff to resolve the issue.

Many websites can tell you whether or not a service’s server is down. We’ve already mentioned Down Detector.
