30 Arraigned over exam malpractices

About 50 students have been apprehended for engaging in exams malpractice in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private students that ended on Wednesday, October 2, 2019.

Out of the number arrested culprits, about 30 candidates have been sent to court and successfully prosecuted, after which they were fined also, jailed or sentenced to both, depending on the gravity of the offense, according to the West African Examination Council (WAEC) act.

Twenty-six were apprehended for impersonation and abetment, while three for abetment only and one for possession of mobile phone and copying in the exams hall.

30 Arraigned over exam malpractices

This year’s private WASSCE (Nov/Dec.), this examination, which is popularly referred to as the ‘NovDec, WASSCE’ which was conducted by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), started from July 29 through October 2, 2019.


The Legal Officer of WAEC, Rev. Robert Brew, said the arrests were part of WAEC’s war against examins malpractices.
