How to Use Local in the Facebook Application

Local is a feature only available on the Facebook app for iPhone and Android. When you are using Local, you can turn on Location Services to be able to suggestions in your area.

Local helps you find places and things to do that are recommended by friends on Facebook. Suggestions in Local are purely based on things like friends’ recommendations, check-ins, and their likes.

Using Local in the Facebook App for iPhone or Android is done by:

  • Tap
  • Click Local.
  • Under Local you can:
  • Scroll down to see things like Your Top Picks This Week, Upcoming Events and Your Recent Places.
  • Search for your choice nearby places based on name, category, or location.
  • Select a category at the top to explore, and use Filters to filter the results.
What to Do to Help Business Show up in Local in the Facebook app?

Ensuring your business show up in Local in the Facebook app requires that you have added all basic Page information to your Page. Page information includes details like the name, category, address, phone number, store hours, username, and a short description of your business.

The strength of your Facebook Page’s connections matters a lot here. Results are being personalized, which makes it different for every user. If someone wishes to find a restaurant in a particular city or town, places that their friends have checked into or recommended can be displayed higher in the result. Results that looks similar to the places, people, and things that a person has previously connected to will likely also be displayed higher in the result page.
