This Poetry Scholarship is open to current or former high school students in the United States between the ages of 13 and 25. The scholarship is worth $1,000 and is given out once a year to help with educational expenses.

A panel of judges selects the eligible poems, and a winner is chosen at random from the top five.

2. The Narrative Prize
This is a prize, as the name implies. The reward is a method to make money from your poetry or other writing, rather than a scholarship. Any new or developing writer whose work has appeared in Narrative in the last year is eligible.

This poetry fellowship is worth $4,000 and is awarded yearly by Narrative Magazine to the greatest work published in their magazine by a new or developing writer.

3. The Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg and Ruth Lilly Poetry Fellowships
This Poetry Scholarship 2019 is open to American citizens and residents aged 21 to 31. Ruth Lilly, the last surviving heir to the riches acquired by pharmaceutical mogul Eli Lilly, her great-grandfather, created the fellowship program in 1989.

The Poetry Foundation awards five of these scholarships each year, which have been boosted from $15,000 to $25,800 apiece

4. The Amy Lowell Poetry Traveling Scholarship
Any American poet who is willing to spend a year outside of North America is eligible for this Poetry Scholarship. The grant can be used for travel and costs rather than college tuition.

She established a scholarship in her will to support the travels of American poets who wish to visit other countries. The scholarship is worth $59,000 and is administered annually by the trustees of her estate.

Applicants for these creative writing scholarships must fill out an application form (PDF) and provide a brief CV as well.
