The Fastest Ways to Turn Off Your Windows Screen: To save energy, turn off your screen when not in use. Here are the easiest ways to switch off your computer’s screen in Windows.

Do you know how long it takes for Windows to shut down your computer? Unfortunately, there is no keyboard shortcut for turning off the display in Windows 10. However, we’ll show you how to regulate your screen and turn it off when necessary. This will not only save you energy but will also protect your screen from burn-in and long-term harm.

Use a Hotkey on a Laptop

While Windows doesn’t have a keyboard shortcut for turning off the screen, your laptop may have one.

This changes based on the laptop model and manufacturer. Look for a screen off sign in the top row of keys, usually F1-12, and test it out.

To override the F key and activate the hotkey feature, you may need to hold the Fn key (usually in the bottom left), though this isn’t always the case.

Windows 10 Power Management Settings should be updated.

Multiple power management options are available in Windows 10. Let’s look at how you can utilize them to manage the amount of time your screen is on and off.

How to Use the Power Button to Turn Off the Screen

Allowing Windows to turn your screen down automatically after a few minutes of inactivity is fantastic. You can save even more battery life by manually turning off your screen. While your PC monitor may have an off button, your laptop’s screen or lighting may not have one. So, if you’re using a laptop, we’ll show you how to turn off the display by repurposing the power button.

Find Related options and click Additional power settings in the Power & sleep settings box shown above. This will bring up the previous version of Windows Control Panel.

Alternatively, press Windows key + Q, type Control Panel into the search box, open the appropriate result, and manually navigate to Power Options. Choose what the power button performs in the left-hand window.

You can make it turn off the display while on battery or plugged in in the next window, under When I hit the power button. (If that option isn’t available, look down.) To save your changes, click Save changes.

All you have to do now is push the power button to turn off your laptop’s screen. You can still violently shut down your computer (if it’s locked up) by holding down the power button for a few seconds.

To see if it succeeded, close the registry editor, restart Windows, and go back to the system settings indicated above, where you should hopefully find the “Turn off display option” back where it belongs.
