However, Facebook has come under fire in recent months after its third-party partner Cambridge Analytica stole the data of over 80 million users.

Many Facebook users have left the site, while others are worried about the security of their personal information and how easily it can be accessed and exploited by third parties without their knowledge or consent.

As a result, many dating apps that had used Facebook to verify users faced a problem: users no longer wanted to use the social network, but they didn’t have a choice.

Coffee Meets Bagel is now joining the ranks of other dating apps in providing customers with another choice.

Dawoon Kang, CMB’s co-founder, and co-CEO spoke with Venture Beat about the change, saying that the company was looking at alternatives such as Gmail, LinkedIn, and other common channels for the sake of user convenience.

However, phone numbers aren’t always reliable, and as CMB discovered, some phone numbers have asked for a passcode to a single account in multiple languages, raising red flags that the number is fraudulent.

They’re partnering with a third-party protection company to define and assign risk numbers to unique phone numbers, enabling CMB to decide whether or not to approve the account.

According to Yahoo Finance, Coffee Meets Bagel saw a 387 percent rise in users who didn’t want to log in with their Facebook accounts.

This goes to show how safeguarded a lot of users are about the information they put online. After the 2018 fiasco where Facebook was allegedly spilling user information, a lot of users became skeptical.

Another explanation for dating apps to step away from relying on Facebook is the company’s recent announcement that it will launch its own dating site.
