The option to sign up for Messenger without a Facebook account was secretly withdrawn by Facebook; the company confirmed to VentureBeat this afternoon. Previously, new users may choose to use their phone number instead of an account using the Messenger or Messenger Lite app.
One of the most commonly used messaging systems is Facebook Messenger, and you certainly know at least a few individuals who use it exclusively. Some individuals are moving away from Facebook, but the Messenger app still needs to be used. It was once possible to use Facebook Messenger without ever getting a Facebook account. To sign up, all you needed was a phone number.
Facebook quietly phased out the option in December of 2019. Now, to make a Messenger account, you must have a Facebook account. To get around this reality, however, there’s a sweet little loophole. Here’s what it takes you to remember.

How to use Facebook Messenger without a Facebook account
It turns out that after you deactivate your Facebook account, you can still use Messenger. This means you can deactivate your account and still use your favorite chat app if you hate Facebook. No problem. It also means that you can get it without holding an active account if you don’t have a messenger, but want it. Without having Facebook, you get what you want. Now, you need to get it all set up.
Getting a Facebook account
Don’t worry if you’re super anti-Facebook. To get access to Messenger, you don’t need to set up a full-blown profile. Only go to Facebook.com and under Build a New Account, fill out the boxes. Create an alternative phone number using Google Voice and forward it to your phone if you don’t want Facebook to have your real phone number. Then press and confirm your phone number by clicking the Sign-Up button. Skip all the other stuff, such as adding a picture to a profile or adding contacts.
Set up Messenger
You can customize your Messenger now that you have your Facebook shell account. Upload the app to your Android or iOS device for Facebook Messenger. Take the software open. Use your name and the phone number you used for your Facebook account, press the Build new account button, and sign up.
How to deactivate your Facebook account and keep Facebook Messenger
Your Facebook account will now be deactivated. Open the menu on the desktop, click Settings, pick Your Facebook Information, and tap Deactivate and Delete.
From the new page options select Deactivate. Be sure not to select the Permanently Delete Account option, because if you fully delete your account, you won’t be able to use Messenger. Enter your password by pressing Proceed to Account Deactivation.
Complete the survey and deactivate your Facebook account to finish up. You will now have your Facebook account deactivated and will be free to continue using Facebook Messenger. This is all that there is to it.
Just as easily as anyone else, you should now be able to use Facebook Messenger. You can upload photos, videos, start group chats, and more, all without a Facebook account, via Messenger. You can now add the Messenger app for Facebook to your desktop, too.
