You can use these large-size emoticon stickers that you can customize to look just like you, from your Facebook profile image to Messenger chatting, leaving comments, and sharing stories.
“Avatars enable you to share a range of emotions and expressions via a digital persona that’s uniquely representative of you, so we’re excited to bring this new form of self-expression to more people around the world,” wrote Fidji Simo, the head of the Facebook app, in celebrating the launch of avatars in the United States.

How to Use Facebook Avatar
You will be able to use your avatar on your desktop, laptop, iPad, or another tablet once you build it on your Facebook app. Can’t you wait to start? To guide you, here are ten easy steps:
On your iOS or Android phone, open up the Facebook mobile app. In the bottom right corner of your screen, click on the three horizontal lines (highlighted in yellow below).
From the right, a tab should slide out. Scroll down now, then click on.
Tap on the first option that says “Avatars.” under it.
A gradient green-blue screen should pop up with example characters from avatars! Select ‘Next’ and Get Started.’
Choose a skin tone and click ‘Next’ when you’re finished.
Now you can customize your avatar more! Choose a hairstyle, face shape, eyebrows, color of the eyes, lipstick, type of skin, facial hair, body shape, outfit, and more. Freckles and hair extensions may also be included.
Tap the checkmark in the upper right-hand corner of your screen if you are pleased with how your avatar looks. That will take you to a second screen where once your avatar is loaded, you can tap “Next.”
When that’s over, you can see the screen below. Tap the button for ‘Done.’
You’re all set now to start using your avatar on Facebook! You can see three buttons on your screen in the upper right-hand corner. If you tap the top (arrow) button, you can share your avatar with your Facebook feed or set it as a new profile picture. The middle button shows all the available stickers you can use for your newly created avatar, and the bottom button allows you to edit your avatar.
Go to any post, such as the Oprah Magazine one below, and tap the smiley face button on the right side to use your avatar in comments (highlighted in yellow). It will pull up your avatars automatically for you to use.
