Why Consider Cross-Posting to Instagram via Facebook on Desktop?

When Facebook recently added the ability to post to a linked Instagram business account from a Facebook page, many marketers became excited about the possibilities. There’ll be no need for a third-party tool with this new Facebook feature, which may mitigate financial consequences for certain small businesses.
There are also cases where both Instagram and Facebook want to share the same content, and the opportunity to do so will save time and decrease the workload at the same time. This feature allows you to simply add the Facebook post you are making to Instagram as a posting option, automatically moving the post to Instagram when you publish it.
Users, especially marketers, have wanted the ability to upload to Instagram via the desktop for as long as Instagram has been around. We also have files stored for images and visual material on our machines, making it simpler to upload content directly from the desktop instead of having to first migrate the content to a mobile device.
Instagram, developed as a smartphone app, has always limited the forms in which content can be posted to the app. This annoyance was alleviated by the incorporation of third-party tools such as Agorapulse, Iconosquare, Tailwind, and Hootsuite, enabling you to upload content through the desktop and schedule the content for subsequent posting times. However, because of API restrictions, there are still plenty of content limitations that can be uploaded via external tools. Let’s look at how to cross-post on your screen from Facebook to Instagram now.
Step 1 – Locate the Cross-Post Feature on Your Facebook Page
You need an Instagram business profile that is linked to a Facebook page you have access to use the cross-posting feature. The new cross-posting feature is now being expanded to Facebook pages. You will see the Instagram post option at the bottom of the post-development screen to start a new post on your Facebook page if you have the feature.
Warning: You won’t be able to use the Facebook cross-posting option if you have two-factor authentication allowed on your Instagram account. If two-factor authentication is allowed, you will receive an alert about it. In order to proceed, you have to disable two-factor authentication on your Instagram account.
If you intend to cross-post from Facebook on a regular basis, you may want to consider disabling two-factor authentication. But beware of the safety hazards associated with this choice.
Step 2 – Compose an Image Post on Your Facebook Page
To get started, write the content of your post and upload your image. To allow the Instagram sharing feature, you’ll need to add a picture. If it contains a single photo, you can make a shareable Instagram message. If it contains multiple photos or a video, you currently can’t upload a post from Facebook to Instagram. For several dashboard tools, these limitations often apply because they are regulated by Instagram’s API restrictions on the upload process.
The size of the photo you can upload to Instagram via Facebook does not have any major restrictions. Pictures in any orientation can be posted to Instagram because Instagram supports square, vertical, and horizontal images. However, a vertical picture taller than a 4:3 ratio will not help Instagram. On Instagram, the photo will be cropped if you post a photo with dimensions greater than that ratio.
The caption of the post will be the same on both Instagram and Facebook, so be careful of how you write your Facebook caption. If you want your Instagram post to include hashtags, you have three options:
- When you write it, include the hashtags in the Facebook post.
- After it is shared with Instagram by editing the message, add the hashtags to the Instagram post caption.
- After it’s posted, add the hashtags to comment on your Instagram post.

Step 3 – Build your Facebook post
I used the hashtags I wanted to appear on the Instagram caption in writing the above caption on Facebook. Immediately after publication, I then edited the Facebook post to remove the hashtags from the Facebook post.
If you are using this feature and are uploading to Facebook, editing the Facebook post caption after posting is possibly simpler and more effective for you rather than going to Instagram and editing your caption or making a comment on that post.
Publish The Post on Instagram And Facebook
Click and pick Instagram from the posting options to allow Instagram sharing. With your username and password, you will have to log into your Instagram account.
Step 4 – How to cross-post from desktop Facebook to Instagram,
You need to log in to your computer just once. If you have logged into Instagram on that device, the next time you share an Instagram post from the same Facebook page, you won’t need to log in again. You would have to log in again with your username and password if you use a different Facebook profile and Instagram account or use a different device for sharing from Facebook to Instagram.
If your Instagram account has been successfully linked, you can see the Instagram option tested for the post sharing options.
Step 5 – How to cross-post from Facebook on the desktop to Instagram,
Ensure that the option to post to Instagram is tested. You must upload both Facebook and Instagram posts “now” to use the cross-posting feature on Instagram. If you try to schedule a later Facebook update, the Instagram sharing option is no longer available, as you can see below. Example of the cross-post to Instagram alternative no longer available when scheduling a Facebook post, How to cross-post to Instagram from Facebook on desktop,
In addition, to allow the Instagram post to be released, you must post to Facebook; only the Instagram alternative can not be chosen. Check your Instagram account after you’ve published the Facebook post, and you’ll see the post you posted is now live on your profile. Now it will start appearing in the feeds of those that follow you.

Although there is always speculation about and analysis into post reach on Facebook, there is no evidence at this time to suggest that a post posted from Facebook to Instagram would have any better reach or higher rankings in the Instagram algorithm, in relation to how or where a post originated (organic to Facebook, shared from Instagram, or uploaded through a third-party tool).
