Google Play Store – What’s The Play Store On Google?: For search, Google is mostly known, but it has much more to offer. When you visit the Google Play Store, a digital market full of content, that’s evident. Let’s look at what it is and how it began.

Android Market – Where the Play Store Started
In 2008, the Google Play Store began life as the “Android Market.” Alongside the first Android devices, it launched, and its goal was to distribute apps and games. It’s that.
In the beginning, the Android Market was extremely basic. Until 2009, it didn’t support paying applications and games. As the Android platform expanded, however, so did the Android Market. It had over 450,000 Android applications and games by 2012.
By this time, relative to the Android industry’s humble beginnings, Google’s ecosystem had significantly grown. The Android Market was just one of the online markets of the company.
Three Stores in One
The launch of the Google Play Store in 2012 was the culmination at that time of three different online markets run by Google. The Android Market, the Google Music Store, and the Google eBookstore have been merged.
The Google eBookstore was launched with more than three million eBooks in 2010. It was mainly packed with public domain titles and scans, despite the large library. Google Music was released in beta in 2011, and while fans loved the local upload feature, its music library for purchasing wasn’t large.
Unlike Android apps and games, Google Music and ebook stores are not exclusive to Android phones and tablets. Google has taken the same path as Apple, which independently manages the App Store, Apple Books, and iTunes. However, despite having wider availability, Google’s stores were not nearly as successful.
To more accurately represent the variety of what Google had to sell, all three stores were merged under the “Google Play” name. “Google Play Books” became the bookstore, and Google Music became “Google Play Music,” both found in the Play Store.
The Google Store Branches off
The Play Store is an interactive marketplace. It used to market physical devices, however, too. For a short while, via a “Devices” tab on the Play Store, Google sold Nexus devices, Chromecasts, and Chromebooks.
This was the only venue at the time that Google had to sell items. It was time for a new store as the company’s hardware efforts expanded. For the company’s hardware, the Google Store was created in 2015, and the “Devices” tab on the Play Store now refers to that instead.

Android applications and sports, movies and TV shows, eBooks, and audiobooks are now located in the Google Play Store. In place of YouTube Music, Google Play Music was deprecated.
As the central place for downloading and buying content, the Play Store is available on Android phones and tablets. It can also be used on streaming sticks for Android TV and Google TV, set-top boxes, and smart televisions. It would almost definitely include the Play Store if a computer runs Android.
Meanwhile, on other devices, such as the iPhone and iPad, other content areas of the Play Store, such as Google Play Books and Google TV/Play Movies & TV, are available. The Google Play Store can also be accessed via a web browser anywhere.
If you’re interested in a Google digital product, the Play Store is where you want to go.
